This wiki page list the activities, student projects and journal reflections from the Math Bootcamp July 6-9, 2010 in Portola Valley, CA. The Boot Camp is an intensive, one-week program focused on accelerating the learning of some of the San Francisco Peninsula’s high potential young minds. It is directed at rising 6 -12th graders (we will be willing to make exceptions for particularly mature rising 5th graders) who demonstrate the motivation and ability to deepen their understanding of math, science and engineering. Although this is not an SAT-prep course, SAT-type problems will be heavily used and the students will be encouraged to take the SAT to assess their overall progress. The heavy thinking will be interspersed with creative and physical activities to ensure the flow of blood to both the body and brain!
This kit covers stereotyping of Arab people, the Arab/Israeli conflict, the war in Iraq and militant Muslim movements. Students will learn core information and vocabulary about the historical and contemporary Middle East issues that challenge stereotypical, simplistic and uninformed thinking, and political and ethical issues involving the role of media in constructing knowledge, evaluating historical truths, and objectivity and subjectivity in journalism.
This seminar discusses the revolution in Egypt and the Middle East, specifically: 1) Events in Egypt and how they relate to politics in Africa and South Africa, 2) Events that led to the revolt in Egypt, 3) Egypt and political communication, as well as personal reflections by Dr. Ibrahim Saleh, 4) Role of islam and politics of the Muslim Brotherhood.
Writing Commons aspires to be a community for writers, a creative learning space for students in courses that require college-level writing, a creative, interactive space for teachers to share resources and pedagogy. Our primary goal is to provide the resources and community students need to improve their writing, particularly students enrolled in courses that require college-level writing. As mentioned in 'About Us', we believe learning materials should be free for all students and teachers part of the cultural commons. Hence, we provide free access to an award-winning, college textbook that was published by a major publisher and awarded the Distinguished Book Award by Computers and Composition: an International Journal.
